Hit the Bricks Raises Record Amount for Cancer Research

Despite a format that had to be adapted to accommodate the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Hit the Bricks fundraiser at Wake Forest University crushed its previous record by raising $130,115 to support research at Wake Forest Baptist’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The event features undergraduate students, faculty and others forming teams that run laps around the main quad on the Wake Forest campus. It is one of several events that support the Piccolo Fund, which raises money in memory of Brian Piccolo, the former Wake Forest football star who died of cancer in 1970. Over the years, students have raised more than $4 million for the Piccolo Fund through their annual events. This year, students far surpassed their previous Hit the Bricks fundraising record of $83,000.
