Forgetting how to comb your hair.
Leaving your car keys inside the refrigerator.
A blank and confused look when your husband says good morning.
Alzheimer’s is a disease that’s heartbreaking in so many ways.
At the Wake Forest Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, our team is making a difference in the fight against this devastating disease. We are a team with a special interest in understanding how common chronic medical conditions, like prediabetes, diabetes and hypertension, influence the risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease. Our researchers are examining how the risk of developing Alzheimer’s is influenced by the health care disparities often experienced by underrepresented groups. We are a center leading the way in conducting multiple large-scale trials and studies offering the latest innovative treatments to patients.
Our team is making great strides in combating Alzheimer’s by leveraging:
- Using research to better understand and detect the early stages of Alzheimer’s
- Finding the stage of the disease where we can do the most to treat it
- Studying how best to slow its progression
- Examining how common chronic medical conditions like prediabetes, diabetes and hypertension influence the risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease
- Conducting multiple large-scale clinical trials and studies aimed at prevention
From examining the risk of developing Alzheimer’s to advancing life-changing research, we’re advancing the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease across North Carolina, and ultimately, the world.
