Forgetting how to comb your hair. Leaving your car keys inside the refrigerator. A blank and confused look when your husband says good morning. Alzheimer’s is a disease that’s heartbreaking in so many ways. Look inside our Wake Forest Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, and you’ll find a team focused on using research to better understand and detect the early stages of Alzheimer’s, the stage of the disease where we can do the most to treat it and slow its progression. We are a team with a special interest in understanding how common chronic medical conditions, like prediabetes, diabetes and hypertension, influence the risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease. Our researchers are examining how the risk of developing Alzheimer’s is influenced by the health care disparities often experienced by underrepresented groups. We are a center leading the way in conducting multiple large-scale trials and studies offering the latest innovative treatments to patients.
